How do I apply to the program and when will I know if I have been accepted?

You should fill in the application for the program and email it or mail it to Prajna Yoga at 11 Toltec Rd. Santa Fe, New Mexico. Within one week we will be able to make a determination regarding your acceptance. You will be notified by email or phone when we have received your application. Or you may call the Prajna office at 505-988-5248. Once you have been accepted into the program, you should register with a $250 deposit.

What qualifications must I meet to be accepted into the program?

We strongly recommend that applicants have one year of consistent asana practice and are relatively comfortable practicing urdhva dhanurasana. The Teacher Training programs include a two-hour asana practice. If you are new to yoga, this would not be an appropriate program to participate in. You will not benefit from learning yoga basics while simultaneously learning how to teach. However, if you have a regular yoga practice, you may be more ready than you think. Keep in mind this program is not only for aspiring teachers, but people who want to deepen their practice.

To qualify for one of our Teacher Training Programs, you MUST complete an application. Each application will be individually reviewed for past experience and background in yogic studies. If there are specific health concerns, they will be reviewed and considered on an individual basis.

Do you offer scholarships or work-exchange programs?

Prajna Yoga offers a limited number of partial scholarships each year to prospective students with exceptional circumstances. For a partial scholarship, we offer up to 20% discount off the full tuition in exchange for 20 hours of a work-exchange position.  Positions range from being an office assistant, to helping with props, marketing projects and landscaping. To apply for a scholarship, please email a letter explaining your circumstances and your request with your application. Spaces are very limited and not guaranteed to be available for every session.

Do you help organize accommodations?

For teacher training programs, workshops and retreats that take place at the Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe, New Mexico, we have arrangements with two local hotels for a discounted rate: The Santa Fe Sage Inn on Cerrillos Rd www.santafesageinn.com and The Santa Fe Suites on St Francis Drive www.thesantafesuites.com. However, you must make your own reservations directly with the hotel. Be sure to identify yourself as part of the Prajna Yoga program to receive your discounted rate.

The lodging at the Santa Fe Sage Inn includes a daily continental breakfast. Pet-friendly, the hotel is conveniently located close to downtown Santa Fe and adjacent to Whole Foods Market. The Santa Fe Suites is located a short distance south of town, and there is a kitchen in each room. We will help organize daily transportation with carpooling to and from the hotel to Prajna Studio.

For those trainings that occur at the Upaya Zen Center, we recommend that students lodge at the Upaya Zen Center. Lodging includes daily breakfast and lunch. Call Upaya directly to make your lodging reservations immediately AFTER being accepted into the Prajna Teaching Training Program. All training and teaching activities take place at the Upaya Center so once you arrive you do not have to leave until the program is over.

Will I need a car while I am in Santa Fe?

If you fly into the Albuquerque Sunport Airport, you can take the Sandia Shuttle (www.sandiashuttle.com) directly to the Santa Fe Sage Inn or The Santa Fe Suites or to the Upaya Zen Center. Call or email us to help arrange carpooling from the hotel to the studio.  You may decide to rent a car at the ABQ airport and drive the 55 miles to Santa Fe.

Will I be qualified to teach yoga once I complete the 200 Hour Teacher Training Program?

With the successful completion of all the requirements of the program, you will receive a Letter of Completion and the Prajna Yoga 200 Hour Certificate evidencing your training at the 200-Hour Level. You may also register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org) at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher 200). Graduates of the 200 Hour program usually begin teaching in small studios, gyms, etc. with private clientele (friends and family).

Many new teachers decide to continue their Teacher Training education and participate in our 500 Hour as a way to further solidify their skills, knowledge and style as a yoga instructor. The 500 Hour curriculum builds on the material presented in the 200 Hour training.  This training is a thorough professional training for becoming a highly skilled yoga teacher. It rounds out and solidifies a teacher’s complete education. Once a student has successfully completed 500 hours, they are eligible to receive the Prajna Yoga 500 Hour Certificate and are able to apply for the Yoga Alliance certificate.

What is the Yoga Alliance?

In 1999 Yoga Alliance organized to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the country are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200 or 500 Hour level. Yoga Alliance registration, however, is not a legal or an absolute requirement for teaching yoga but being a Yoga Alliance registered teacher adds credibility to your teaching credentials. Yoga Alliance 200 Hour Certification offers the added benefit of a listing on their website and the recognition of a national certifying body.
