Description:

Art of Body Reading & Hands On Assists

Each body is subject to a host of compensations including pulls, rotations, shifts and torques. It is an art to be able to see the body’s asymmetries and to feel strain patterns under your hands. This course helps develop a discriminating eye and skillful touch when directing students toward greater opening. Knowing how to use your hands to adjust and guide students is an essential skill for any class setting or private instruction.

In the first part of this course learn to identify postural dynamics in the legs, pelvis, shoulders and spine and to see strain patterns through visual assessment. Then students gain confidence in their touch to support, guide and release the body through manual assist. We emphasize the fundamentals of how much pressure to apply and how to apply force in more than one direction at a time. Tias refers to his training in massage and deep tissue work to cover the principles of myofascial release work within yoga postures. We cover how to assist students to guide them further into poses such as twisting poses, back-bends and side-bends. We spend considerable time reviewing how to adjust people in restorative poses and how to “adjust” students with the use of props. We cover the essentials of therapeutic touch including a special session on the use of tuning forks and pressure point release.
