Yoga, the Liver and Purification

The Spring season is the opportune time to cleanse the blood following a winter of dormancy and of all the organs in the body, the liver is the organ paired with the Spring season. The liver is the primary site where the blood is purified in the body. It is the largest organ, and it is the primary organ involved in cleansing, producing and storing blood. Due to its size and the complex array of functions that the liver performs, the liver is also a receptacle for toxins, excess heat and negative emotion. This class details the position and function of the liver and includes a sequence of postures to support liver function. Both asana and breath mobility (pranayama) are invaluable to help reduce stagnation and congestion in the liver and to mobilize the organ so that it functions optimally. The focus of our practice will be twisting poses, supported spinal extensions to stretch the liver and its adjoining ligaments, and inversions. This day long intensive will end with chanting and metta practice (positive emotion and kindness meditation) to counter negative emotion that is housed in the liver.

The day starts at 10am and ends at 5pm.  Bring your own lunch and yoga mat.  We will have tea and snacks available at he studio.

Register early as space is limited!
