The roots of yoga practice sprout patience, kindness and mindfulness, as well as offer pregnant women a perfect opportunity to explore the spiritual aspects of birth and mothering, to find physical relief from common discomforts, and ease in birthing.
The workshop curriculum includes anatomy and physiology, detailed presentations on benefits and contraindications for yoga practice during pregnancy and postpartum. Most of the classes are focused on careful analysis of asanas and the appropriate use of props to support the pregnant body. Other topics include pranayama, mudra, chanting, how to integrate pregnant students in general classes and how to start a prenatal class. Students also have the opportunity to try on an "empathy belly" which gives the feeling of the weight and breadth of pregnancy, and to watch a sample class with pregnant students.
"It is my interest that students come away from this intensive with solid information on how to proceed in safely and confidently teaching pregnant students."
New for 2010 workshop: pranayama, mudra, chanting and postpartum practice.
