In 2004, Tias and Surya Little built Prajna Yoga in breathtaking Santa Fe, New Mexico. The building’s exterior is made of clay/straw and the interior is finished in earth plastering. Constructed entirely from natural, non-toxic materials, the building is meant to “breathe”; So it is a living structure.
The design-builder team, Paula Baker-LaPorte and Robert LaPorte of EcoNest Building Company (www.econest.com), are forerunners in the field of natural building. Handcrafted in the timber frame style, the building is ecological and
sustainable utilizing active and passive solar power and an extensive rainwater catchment system. Featuring a Japanese aesthetic, the building has clean, elegant lines. Also influenced by the Vastu principles of Indian architecture, the design provides a very serene, harmonizing environment.
Our building is nestled in the trees of the high desert landscape of northern New Mexico, fifteen minutes outside the city of Santa Fe. The natural Japanese gardens, walkways, pond, and rock benches compliment the overall retreat atmosphere. Unique and spectacular, it is a beautiful setting for yoga practice.
