The word Prajna in Sanskrit means Insight, Deep Understanding and Wisdom. It suggests an embodied wisdom, a knowing that permeates the nerve endings, the connective tissues and the blood cells throughout the body.
The Prajna Yoga symbol is the Knot of Eternity (sandhi naityam). We chose this design, for it represents the inter-connectivity of all beings and the unity of life that includes all things. It is one of the eight symbols (ashtamangala) that expresses the wisdom of the Buddha’s teaching.
Suggested in this symbol is that there is no such thing as an isolated “I” or “me” apart from the weave of everything else. The key to this teaching is that the purpose of the path of yoga is not to get outside of or away from one’s relationships in the world. Suggested in the weave of the Eternal Knot is to participate more wholeheartedly in life. Via the community of Prajna Yoga, we actively create the bonds that tie us together. The sangha or community of practitioners that we form is a celebration of the way in which we are all inter-connected.
Prajna Yoga makes its home in the foothills of Santa Fe, New Mexico–the home of Tias and Surya Little. After directing local yoga studios for 11 years in the city of Santa Fe, they built a retreat center that provides a serene setting for students to deepen their practice and studies. In 2004, Tias and Surya founded Prajna Yoga in order to integrate yoga discipline with contemplative practice and study. The Prajna studio, handcrafted with the aesthetic of Japanese temple design, is an exquisite facility to support students to explore the healing arts of yoga.
